02 Mar, 2026 06:05 PM

Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Education Minister, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, today extended greetings to the entire Punjabi community on the occasion of Hola Mohalla, emphasizing the festival as a symbol of Sikh strength, spiritual steadfastness, and the spirit of Chardi Kala. Speaking to reporters, he highlighted the importance of standing firm on the path of truth and justice. Responding to statements made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding religious conversion, Dr. Cheema remarked that the people of Sri Anandpur Sahib have historically raised their voice strongly against forced conversions. He urged that governments should go beyond issuing statements and take concrete, effective measures to prevent any coercive religious changes. Addressing the ongoing geopolitical tensions in Iran and Israel, Dr. Cheema expressed deep concern for the safety of Punjabis and other Indian nationals stranded in these regions. He appealed to the Indian government to take immediate action to ensure the secure evacuation of affected citizens. Dr. Cheema specifically requested that the Ministry of External Affairs coordinate with Indian embassies to establish special arrangements for the safe repatriation of those at risk. The press interaction was attended by Daljit Singh Bhinder, a member of the Shiromani Committee’s internal committee, who stood alongside Dr. Cheema in highlighting the urgency of protecting the safety and rights of Indians caught in international conflict zones. Dr. Cheema’s appeal underscores the need for proactive government intervention to safeguard the lives of overseas Indians amid rapidly changing international circumstances, especially in areas experiencing conflict or political unrest.
