Senior Congress Leader Lal Singh Dies in Chandigarh After Prolonged Illness

Senior Congress leader and former Punjab minister Lal Singh has passed away, according to information received on Saturday. He breathed his last at Max Hospital in Chandigarh after being unwell for several days. Family sources said that his mortal remains will be taken to Patiala shortly. His demise has led to a wave of grief in political circles across Punjab. Lal Singh began his political career in the 1980s with the Indian National Congress and remained associated with the party throughout his life. He was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Patiala Rural constituency in 1992. He went on to win the assembly elections consecutively in 2002, 2007, and 2012, representing the same constituency. During his tenure in the Congress-led government, Lal Singh served as a cabinet minister and handled key portfolios, including the Food Department.
