Fatal Crash in Valparai: Tempo Traveller Loses Control, Plunges Into Valley
At least nine people lost their lives and five others were seriously injured in a tragic road accident in Valparai on Friday. The incident occurred when a tempo traveller lost control at a sharp hairpin bend and plunged into a deep gorge. According to police, the vehicle was returning from Valparai and was carrying 13 tourists from Perinthalmanna. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle at the 13th hairpin bend, causing it to skid down and fall near the 9th hairpin bend. In the accident, one man and eight women died on the spot. The injured passengers were immediately rushed by ambulance to the government hospital in Pollachi, where they are undergoing treatment. Hairpin bends are common in hilly regions where straight roads are not feasible. These roads are designed with sharp turns to allow vehicles to gradually climb steep terrain. A hairpin bend refers to a sudden curve where the road turns sharply and runs nearly parallel in the opposite direction. In India, several routes are known for such bends, including the Kolli Hills, Silk Route, Manali-Leh Highway, and Nainital. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
