Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Friday announced that a special session of the state विधानसभा will be convened on April 13 at 11:00 AM to formulate a stringent law aimed at preventing incidents of sacrilege. The Speaker stated that the primary objective of this session is to introduce a new and stricter legal framework to curb such incidents and ensure severe punishment for those found guilty. The session has been called following recommendations from the Punjab Cabinet, and all members of the Assembly have been invited to attend. He further emphasized that the move is intended to address a long-standing public demand for justice in sacrilege-related cases. According to him, the proposed legislation will aim to uphold the sanctity of religious scriptures and places of worship across all religions, while also strengthening communal harmony in the state. Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has welcomed the decision to strengthen anti-sacrilege laws. However, the committee has also called for greater transparency regarding the legal framework and its provisions.
