Congressional Report Reveals Significant US Aircraft Losses in Ongoing Iran War

20 May, 2026 02:51 PM

The ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has now continued for more than two months, with no clear signs of de-escalation. Amid the prolonged fighting, a new report has claimed that the United States has suffered significant military and economic losses during the conflict. Despite the pressure, Iran is reportedly still unwilling to back down or accept defeat. According to a report released by the US Congressional Research Service (CRS), at least 42 American military aircraft have either been destroyed or severely damaged since the conflict with Iran began on February 28. The report stated that the actual number could increase, as details regarding several incidents remain classified and damage assessments from multiple sources are still underway. The report further noted that the losses include Strike Eagle fighter jets as well as special operations aircraft. The CRS, which provides legal and policy analysis to the US Congress and its committees, prepared the assessment using information from the US Department of Defense, statements issued by the US Central Command, and various media reports. The report also highlighted that this is believed to be the first time since the Vietnam and Iraq wars that the United States has suffered such extensive losses of advanced and expensive aircraft in a military conflict. The developments have intensified discussions around the growing scale and cost of the ongoing war. Meanwhile, the conflict continues without any indication of an immediate resolution, as tensions between the involved nations remain high.
