16 Mar, 2026 04:39 PM

The Government of India on Monday issued an advisory for its citizens currently in Iran, urging them not to approach or attempt to cross any land borders without prior and clear coordination with the Indian Embassy in Tehran. The advisory emphasized that any Indian national attempting to leave Iran via land borders without guidance from the Embassy may face serious logistical and immigration challenges. The Embassy clarified that it would not be in a position to provide assistance to those moving across Iranian territory without prior coordination. The advisory stated, “…all Indian nationals present in Iran are strongly advised not to approach any land border in Iran without prior and clear coordination with the Indian Embassy.” The Embassy highlighted the importance of following official instructions to ensure safety and avoid complications. In connection with the advisory, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has provided helpline numbers for immediate assistance: Telephone: +98 912 810 9115, +98 912 810 9102, +98 912 810 9109, +98 993 217 9359 Email: cons.tehrant@mea.gov.in The advisory comes in the wake of recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory and rising regional tensions, which have prompted the Embassy to caution Indian nationals to avoid any unauthorized movements near borders. Authorities have stressed that strict compliance with the Embassy’s instructions is crucial to ensure the safety of Indian citizens and to prevent potentially serious legal or logistical issues while in Iran.
