CM Vijay Directs Shutdown of Liquor Outlets Within 500-Metre Radius of Public Institutions
Soon after the formation of the new government in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Vijay has begun taking major administrative decisions. On Tuesday, the Chief Minister directed officials to shut down 717 liquor shops operating across the state. According to government orders, these liquor outlets are located within a 500-metre radius of religious places, educational institutions and bus stands. The Chief Minister has instructed authorities to ensure the closure of all identified shops within the next two weeks. The Tamil Nadu government stated that the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation currently operates 4,765 liquor outlets across the state. Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, officials conducted a special statewide survey to identify shops situated close to sensitive public locations. During the survey, authorities found that 276 liquor shops were located near religious places. In addition, 186 outlets were operating close to schools and colleges, while 255 shops were identified near bus stands. Based on the findings of the survey, the government has issued closure orders for a total of 717 liquor shops across Tamil Nadu.
