Cross-Border Drug Network Busted in Amritsar; One Held with ₹4.62 Lakh Drug Money
The rural police in Amritsar have uncovered a major drug trafficking module linked to cross-border smuggling networks operating from Pakistan, leading to the arrest of one आरोपी and the recovery of ₹4.62 lakh in drug money. According to police officials, the arrested individual has been identified as Rohanpreet Singh alias Rohan, a resident of Bachhiwind. Two other accused—Manmeet Singh from a border village Mode and Shivam from Ambala Cantonment—have also been named in the case and are currently absconding. A case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway. Police officials stated that a special checkpoint was set up near Attari following specific intelligence inputs. The information suggested that the network was involved in procuring heroin from Pakistani smugglers and distributing it to local drug peddlers. The proceeds from the illegal trade were reportedly sent back to Pakistan through hawala channels. During the operation, Rohanpreet Singh was intercepted while he was on a motorcycle, allegedly on his way to deliver heroin and collect payments. A search led to the recovery of ₹4,62,600 in Indian currency and the seizure of the motorcycle used in the operation. Police authorities indicated that the international links of the network are being thoroughly investigated. They also expressed the possibility of further arrests and significant recoveries in the coming days as the probe progresses.
