Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma Appears Before ED in Probe Linked to Alleged Fake Forensic Reports

19 Oct, 2026 06:37 PM

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday in connection with an investigation into allegedly fabricated forensic reports concerning a purported video of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The ED had summoned Sharma and some other individuals to its zonal office in Chandigarh on October 19 for questioning. The case relates to reports allegedly prepared to establish that a video linked to the Chief Minister was artificial intelligence-generated or fake.

According to the information available, the ED is examining suspected financial transactions in the matter, as well as an alleged conspiracy behind the preparation of the reports.

How the case came to light

The controversy emerged after Gurgaon Police registered a case and alleged that fake forensic reports had been prepared for a substantial payment to portray the purported video of the Chief Minister as false.

Gurgaon Police have already arrested two accused, identified as Arun Mahendru and Ankit, in connection with the case. They are alleged to have prepared the purportedly fake cyber examination reports without the involvement of an authorised laboratory.

The ED is investigating the suspected financial dealings and the circumstances surrounding the alleged preparation of the reports. The allegations are under investigation.
