Amitabh Bachchan Warns Media Against Twisting His Words, Says His Post Was a Prayer to Lord Krishna
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has strongly criticised a media outlet for allegedly misrepresenting his social media post dedicated to Lord Krishna. The 84-year-old actor expressed his anger on Monday, accusing the outlet of distorting his words and using a religious reference for publicity.
In an angry response posted on social media, Bachchan clarified that his October 29 post was simply an expression of devotion to Lord Krishna. However, a media outlet reportedly interpreted it as a challenge to his opponents, suggesting that he had asked them to bring their "elephants and horses".
Reacting to the report, Bachchan explained that the phrase was part of a traditional devotional chant, "Hathi Ghoda Palki, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki", commonly recited in praise of Lord Krishna.
He criticised the publication for allegedly disrespecting the religious expression and using it to attract publicity. The actor described the reporting as a serious insult to the chant "Jai Shri Krishna" and alleged that his original words had been deliberately twisted.
Addressing the media, Bachchan also referred to his social media following of around five crore (50 million), claiming that 10 per cent of his followers would be enough to respond to such reports if he gave the signal.
In another post shared on X early Monday, the veteran actor said that the more his words were distorted and criticised, the greater the response his followers, whom he affectionately calls his Extended Family (Ef), could generate.
Sharing the headline that had upset him, Bachchan questioned whether the media outlet had realised the religious disrespect involved in its reporting.
He further said that mistakes could happen, but those responsible should acknowledge them, apologise and make corrections. He expressed disappointment that the media outlet appeared to consider such reporting its unquestionable right.
Bachchan is among the early film industry personalities who embraced blogging and regularly communicate with their followers through social media. He is known for posting daily updates, which often include personal experiences, greetings, film memories and reflections on his everyday life.
The actor remains active on his official blog and various social media platforms. According to the report, he has 4.47 crore (44.7 million) followers on X and 3.62 crore (36.2 million) followers on Instagram.
