Global Tensions Rise: Sachs Calls for Joint Action by India, China and Russia

06 Apr, 2026 03:28 PM

Amid escalating tensions in West Asia involving the United States and Israel against Iran, noted American economist Jeffrey Sachs has stated that only three global leaders currently possess the influence to prevent a potential large-scale conflict. According to Sachs, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin are the only leaders capable of jointly intervening to halt the escalating situation and avert a possible global catastrophe. In an interview with ‘NewOrder TV’, Sachs said that the growing hostility must now be addressed through wisdom and diplomatic intervention. He emphasised that these leaders have the capacity to work together and restrain the actions of the United States in order to de-escalate the conflict. He further urged that platforms such as BRICS, under India’s leadership, should be actively utilised for coordinated intervention. Sachs argued that India, given its historical importance and growing global influence, should not remain silent and must take a proactive role in addressing the crisis. He stated that India has the strength to oppose what he described as incorrect decisions by the United States and should align with China and Russia to adopt a unified stance aimed at reducing global tensions. Sachs also suggested that India should adopt a strong diplomatic approach and leverage its longstanding relations with countries like Iran. Describing the conflict as a “war of choice,” he warned that it violates international norms and poses a serious threat not only to humanity but also to the global economy, potentially leading to widespread economic disruption.
