Petrol Bomb Attack on BJP District Office in Sangrur; Police and Forensic Teams Launch Investigation

A petrol bomb attack was reported at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district office in Sangrur, Punjab. The incident is said to have taken place around 2 a.m. after midnight on Saturday. No one was present inside the office at the time of the attack. The incident came to light on Sunday morning, following which police officials reached the spot and launched an investigation. Speaking to the media, SP (D) Davinder Atri said that the police received information about the incident on Sunday morning and immediately reached the location. According to him, petrol was filled into a beer bottle and thrown at the outer wall of the office, where signs of fire were found. Preliminary information suggests that the attack took place between 2:00 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on Saturday night. He added that multiple police teams have been assigned to investigate the case. Police are in the process of registering a case and have stated that those responsible will be identified and arrested at the earliest. BJP leader Randeep Singh Deol said that the incident came to light when a party worker unlocked the office on Sunday morning. He alleged that the attackers attempted to set the office on fire by throwing a petrol bomb, adding that smoke marks were visible on the upper portion of the building. Deol criticized the Punjab government over the incident, stating that an attack on a political party's district office reflects a failure of law and order. He also referred to previous attacks on the BJP office in Chandigarh and on police stations. Meanwhile, newly appointed BJP district president Maninder Singh Kapyal said that the incident had been reported to the party's Punjab president, Keval Singh Dhillon. He expressed concern over the law and order situation in the state, stating that ordinary citizens, police stations, and political party offices were not safe and that such attacks had been occurring repeatedly.
