Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to visit Balachaur today, where he will inaugurate a significant irrigation project aimed at benefiting farmers in the Kandi region. During the visit, the Chief Minister will formally launch the Kathgarh Lift Irrigation Scheme. This project will enable canal water to reach elevated areas that were previously considered difficult to irrigate. The state government has described this initiative as a major step towards turning the “impossible” into “possible.” With the implementation of the scheme, land in the Kandi region that has long depended on rainfall will now receive a regular supply of canal water for irrigation. Under the project, approximately 11,500 acres of agricultural land across 33 villages in Punjab will directly benefit. This is expected to improve crop productivity and enhance farmers’ income in the region. The scheme had been a long-standing demand of farmers in the Kandi belt and has now been translated into reality, offering much-needed relief to the agricultural community.
