Punjabi singer Jasmine Sandlas drew attention during her live concert in the Chandigarh-Mohali area by expressing support for the LGBTQ+ community and calling for greater acceptance, equality and freedom to love.
The singer made the statement during a show organised as part of her ‘The Dream Girl India Tour’. She appeared on stage with a colourful rainbow dupatta, a symbol associated with the LGBTQ+ community, and used the occasion to speak about love and the right of individuals to live according to their identity.
Known for her powerful voice and outspoken style, Sandlas performed several of her popular songs before thousands of spectators. Alongside the musical performances, she openly voiced her support for the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ people.
Addressing the audience, the singer spoke about divisions within Punjabi society and urged people not to judge others over whom they choose to love.
“We Punjabis are very divided. Let people love. Who are we to tell someone whom they can love and whom they cannot? Love is a very sacred thing. Many people do not find love, so let those who do find it love each other,” she said.
Sandlas also emphasised the importance of allowing people to live their lives freely.
“There are many people in this world who do not even know how to live. Let those who are living their lives do so,” she said.
Her rainbow dupatta and remarks conveyed a message of inclusion and respect for individual choices. The performance brought attention to the importance of accepting people without discrimination and recognising their right to live with dignity.
The singer’s public expression of support at a major live event has been welcomed by fans and social media users, who have described it as a positive step towards encouraging greater acceptance and social change.
