A major cleanliness drive was carried out today at the Amritsar bus stand and its adjoining areas as part of the Punjab government’s state-wide ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ initiative. Aimed at making the holy city of Amritsar clean, green, and aesthetically vibrant, the campaign was jointly led by Amritsar East MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur and Amritsar Mayor Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia. Highlighting the scope of the mission, MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur stated that the Punjab government has initiated dedicated sanitation campaigns across the state, with clean-up operations actively underway throughout Amritsar. She emphasized that administrative efforts alone are insufficient to sustain urban hygiene, calling for active public participation from every citizen to maintain cleanliness. Addressing residents and incoming visitors, MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur urged people to dispose of garbage exclusively at designated collection points and dustbins, refraining from littering public spaces. She also encouraged the community to reduce plastic consumption and adopt eco-friendly cloth bags to protect the environment. She reaffirmed that similar drives will continue in the coming days to achieve the vision of a "Clean Amritsar, Beautiful Amritsar." Amritsar Mayor Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia pledged that the Municipal Corporation of Amritsar will spare no effort in keeping the holy city clean. Noting that lakhs of devotees and tourists visit Amritsar daily from across India and abroad, he stressed that every part of the city should present a welcoming and hygienic environment. Mayor Bhatia added that the municipal corporation is continuously working to refine its sanitation systems and is accelerating cleanliness drives across various localities. He called on local residents to support the administration and civic authorities by taking personal responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.
