Construction work on the underpass near Jassian Road in Ludhiana is progressing rapidly, with the project expected to provide relief to commuters who regularly face traffic congestion on the busy stretch.
The underpass is being developed to improve the movement of vehicles and reduce traffic bottlenecks in the area. As part of the project, the service lanes have also been widened from seven metres to 11 metres to facilitate smoother movement for commuters.
MLA Madan Lal Bagga said the underpass would play an important role in easing congestion and improving connectivity in the area. He said the facility near Jassian Road would help reduce traffic bottlenecks while providing safer and faster travel for local residents.
Bagga also said another underpass has been planned near Kailash Nagar to manage both inbound and outbound traffic. According to him, the two projects are expected to reduce congestion and improve road safety along one of Ludhiana's busiest corridors.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur highlighted the importance of the projects, particularly at locations considered accident-prone. She said the underpasses would help address traffic congestion at two black spots where accidents occur frequently.
According to officials, the projects are aimed at reducing traffic-related delays and improving safety for road users. The underpasses are also expected to provide smoother connectivity towards Kailash Nagar and Jassian Road.
Each underpass measures 15x2 metres and has a clear height of 5.5 metres. The projects are being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 21.67 crore.
The ongoing construction has raised expectations among local residents and commuters who regularly use the Jassian Road stretch. Rajesh Sharma, a local shopkeeper, said traffic congestion during the evening often makes it difficult to cross the area, with commuters sometimes spending 30 to 40 minutes on the stretch.
Residents hope that once the underpasses are completed, travel time will be reduced and traffic movement will become smoother. The projects are also expected to contribute to improved road safety along the busy corridor.
