36-Day Block Approved at Chandigarh Railway Station for Redevelopment; 12 Trains Cancelled

Rail commuters traveling through Chandigarh are likely to encounter significant schedule disruptions over the coming weeks as a 36-day block has been approved at the Chandigarh Railway Station for ongoing station redevelopment work. The approval, granted by the Ambala Division, marks the second time in a month that a major construction block has been sanctioned for the executing agency. The redevelopment initiative will proceed in three distinct phases of 12 days each: Phase 1: September 10 to September 21 Phase 2: September 22 to October 3 Phase 3: October 4 to October 15 During this period, crucial structural work will be carried out, including the strengthening of station pillars and the installation of a roof on the foot overbridge. To accommodate the construction activities, railway authorities have cancelled 12 trains operating from Chandigarh and Kalka. Additionally, several services will be diverted or short-terminated between Chandigarh and Ambala. To maintain connectivity, six trains will temporarily originate from Ambala, while eight trains will operate out of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) Railway Station. Operational adjustments will also affect station platforms. Between September 10 and September 21, platform assignments for approximately 20 trains will be changed to facilitate train washing and cleaning. Services usually departing from Platforms 1 and 2 will be reassigned to other platforms. Railway officials have advised passengers traveling during September and October to double-check their train status, departure stations, and platform numbers prior to starting their journey. Commuters whose trains have been rescheduled to depart from Mohali or Ambala are urged to allocate extra travel time to reach those stations.
