In a unique initiative, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) businessman has constructed a replica of the Statue of Liberty on the fourth floor of his house in Kishanpura village of Jalandhar district, drawing attention from locals and visitors alike. The structure has been built by Gurjit Singh Matharu, who has been living in the United States for several years. He stated that people are fond of taking photographs with the Statue of Liberty, which inspired him to recreate the iconic monument at his residence so that people in Punjab could also enjoy the experience. According to Matharu, ever since the installation of the statue, a large number of people have been visiting his house to see it. Visitors have been taking photographs and selfies, and many have shown curiosity about how and where the structure was built. He further shared that he has been residing in New York for the past 26 years and is engaged in the construction business there. His ancestral home is located in Kishanpura village. During his time in New York, he frequently visited the Statue of Liberty, which left a lasting impression on him. Matharu added that as he visits India every year, he wanted to recreate the statue on his rooftop to preserve his memories of New York while also offering something unique to the local community. The installation has now become a point of attraction in the area.
