In a major religious directive, Sri Akal Takht Sahib has excommunicated Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member and Akali leader Amarjit Singh Chawla, alongside Sri Akal Takht Sahib's Additional Head Granthi Giani Malkit Singh, following grave misconduct allegations. The announcement was made from the podium of Sri Akal Takht Sahib by Acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj. Delivering the verdict, the Sikh clergy stated that both individuals held significant positions within Sikh religious institutions. The serious allegations leveled against them have deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community and tarnished the image of its institutions. The Akal Takht issued an edict directing the global Sikh community to sever all social interactions and familial ties with both individuals, alongside banning them from working in any Sikh institution. Prior to this edict, the SGPC had suspended Additional Head Granthi Bhai Malkit Singh and Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib driver Mohan Singh with immediate effect after their involvement surfaced in the immoral misconduct case. The official suspension orders were issued by SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Manan. The development stems from a formal police complaint lodged by a woman visiting from Dubai, who accused SGPC member Amarjit Singh Chawla of serious offenses, including rape. Following the police complaint, Chawla resigned from his membership in both the SGPC and the primary membership of the Shiromani Akali Dal, and has been absconding ever since. The high-level decision followed a crucial meeting at the Sri Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat. The assembly of the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones) and senior clergy included Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib Granthi Giani Kewal Singh, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Tek Singh, Sri Akal Takht Sahib Granthi Giani Gurbakhshish Singh, and Bhai Mangal Singh from the Akal Takht Secretariat.
