Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a sharp political attack on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia during a public meeting held at Chawinda Devi in the Majitha constituency on Wednesday. Mann said Majithia’s alleged “gunda raj” in the constituency had now come to an end. He also made a serious allegation against the Majithia family, claiming that it was “anti-national” and alleging that members of the family had hosted General Dyer for a meal at their home on the night of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Targeting the Shiromani Akali Dal, the Chief Minister said the party was pleading with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for an alliance in an effort to protect its political existence. He alleged that drugs were openly sold during the Akali government’s tenure and accused the party’s leaders of being responsible for the suffering of Punjab’s youth. Mann further said the Akali Dal’s political fortunes had declined completely and that the party was now desperately trying to board the BJP’s “boat” by seeking an alliance with it. Taking aim at the Congress, Mann compared the party’s condition to that of a 90-year-old person admitted to a hospital, whom doctors advise taking home for care. He said the Congress was now “on its last breath” and claimed that an internal struggle for power and positions was responsible for its decline. The Chief Minister said the people of Punjab had already freed themselves from the traditional political parties. He expressed confidence that voters would once again elect an Aam Aadmi Party government in the state in 2027. During the programme, Mann also encouraged Majitha constituency in-charge Talbir Singh Gill. He assured that development works in the constituency would be approved immediately and that there would be no shortage of grants for development projects.
