Indian para-athlete Sandeep delivered a stellar performance at the Asian Para Games on Friday, clinching the gold medal in the men's 400m T64 final with a world record time of 52.28 seconds. Competing at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, Sandeep posted a reaction time of 0.264 seconds and finished 0.85 seconds ahead of Saudi Arabia’s Noor Alsana, who secured second place.

Adding to India's podium tally in the same event, fellow countryman Ajay Kumar finished third to take the bronze medal with a Games record time of 53.61 seconds, finishing 1.33 seconds behind Sandeep. In the competition classification, both Sandeep and Alsana competed under the T44 category, while Kumar competed under the T64 category. Both categories cover lower limb impairments and are frequently run together in combined field events.

India’s success on the track was bolstered by strong field performances earlier in the day. Nimisha Chakkangalparambil secured a silver medal in the women’s long jump T47 event with a personal best jump of 5.37 meters. She finished just 15 centimeters behind Sri Lanka’s Dhananjana Wickramasinghe, who set a new Games record of 5.52 meters to claim gold.

In the men's 1500m T46 category, Pramod Bijarnia earned another silver medal for India with an impressive performance on the track. The T47 and T46 classifications cater to standing athletes with upper limb impairments, including limb deficiencies or severe functional limitations affecting the arm, elbow, or shoulder.

In other events, Indian athletes narrowly missed out on additional podium finishes. Praveen Sharma finished fourth in the men’s discus throw F11 final with a best attempt of 30.64 meters, in an event dominated by Iran, whose throwers swept all three medal positions. Similarly, Amisha Rawat placed fourth in the women’s shot put F46 final with a best throw of 11.16 meters.
