India’s women’s squash team secured a bronze medal at the Asian Games 2026 after losing 1-2 to Hong Kong in a closely contested semifinal on Thursday. The result confirmed India’s place on the podium, while Hong Kong advanced from the semifinal.
The Indian team’s campaign began with 18-year-old Anahat Singh, who faced Hong Kong’s Sin Yuk Chan in the opening match. Anahat, ranked World No. 17, started strongly against the World No. 25 player, winning the first two games 11-9 and 11-8.
However, Chan fought back to win the next two games 11-6 and 13-11. Anahat had opportunities to close out the contest but was unable to convert four match points. Chan eventually won the deciding fifth game 12-10, giving Hong Kong the early advantage.
Tanvi Khanna Keeps India’s Hopes Alive
India’s Tanvi Khanna then produced a strong comeback against World No. 40 Ka Yi Lee. The World No. 73 Indian recovered after losing the opening game and won the contest 3-1 (4-11, 13-11, 11-9, 13-11).
Tanvi’s victory levelled the semifinal at 1-1 and kept India’s hopes of reaching the final alive.
Joshna Chinappa Loses Deciding Match
The outcome was ultimately decided in the third match, where veteran Indian player Joshna Chinappa faced Hong Kong’s Ho Tze Lok.
Chinappa, a former World Top-10 player, was unable to overcome her opponent and suffered a straight-game defeat. The result gave Hong Kong a 2-1 win in the semifinal and ended India’s hopes of reaching the final.
India therefore finished with the bronze medal in the women’s team squash competition.
The medal adds to India’s strong squash showing at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. India had already won medals in other squash events, including singles and mixed doubles, before the women’s team secured bronze.
