An alleged attempt to commit sacrilege was foiled at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Gurbaksh Singh, located within the Sri Harmandir Sahib (Sri Darbar Sahib) Complex in Amritsar, after sewadars quickly intervened and detained a youth involved in the incident. According to the information available, the incident took place late on Wednesday evening when the youth allegedly drew a sword in front of the sacred Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Sewadars on duty acted promptly, preventing any further action and taking the individual into custody before handing him over to the police. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami took serious note of the incident and called for the identification of those behind what he described as a possible conspiracy. He said the alertness of the sewadars prevented an act of sacrilege from taking place. Dhami described the incident as extremely serious and said it appeared to be part of a larger conspiracy. He confirmed that the accused is currently in police custody. He also appealed to gurdwara managements and members of the Sikh community to remain vigilant and continue performing their responsibilities to prevent such incidents. Before the youth was handed over to the police, he was questioned about his actions. According to the information provided, he did not initially explain why he had acted in that manner. When sewadars asked who had sent him, the accused replied, "I came on my own. I never lie, nor am I afraid of anyone. If you think I am wrong, then you may even cut me down with a sword." Authorities are expected to continue investigating the incident to determine the circumstances and any possible motive behind the alleged act.
