Canada Punjabi Murder: Punjabi Man Killed in Langley; Two Arrested With Large Cache of Weapons
A 23-year-old Punjabi man was killed in Langley, British Columbia, after being shot at a plaza, while police near Winnipeg arrested two Punjabi men and recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition and cash from a residence.
Police have not yet officially released the identity of the man killed in Langley. However, sources identified him as 23-year-old Jeevan Johal.
Langley police said they received a report of a shooting at a plaza near 200 Street and 60 Avenue on Tuesday night. When officers arrived, they found a young man suffering from gunshot wounds inside a high-end vehicle.
Despite efforts to save his life with medical assistance, the victim died at the scene.
Shortly after the shooting, police received information about a vehicle fire near 75 Avenue and 232 Street. The vehicle is believed to be linked to the homicide. Investigators are examining whether it was deliberately set on fire after the incident.
In a separate development near Winnipeg, police arrested two Punjabi men following a search of a residence in the West St. Paul area. The accused have been identified as 48-year-old Ravinder Chahal and 38-year-old Kulwinder Chahal, both residents of the township.
Police said the investigation began after information was received from the Canada Border Services Agency. Based on the information, officers obtained a search warrant and searched a home in West St. Paul.
The search resulted in the recovery of 13 firearms, 2,000 rounds of ammunition, C$20,000 in cash and other prohibited items, police said.
Both men were arrested at the scene. Following the investigation, police said 23 charges were laid against them on Wednesday. They are expected to appear in court in the coming days.
The two cases are separate developments, and the available information does not establish a connection between the Langley homicide and the weapons seizure near Winnipeg.
