Chandigarh Congress Steps Up Campaign for Free Water, Holds Demonstration Against BJP

29 Jun, 2026 10:52 AM

The Chandigarh Congress on Monday intensified its demand for providing 20,000 litres of free water every month to city residents by staging a protest outside the Municipal Corporation office in Sector 17. The party accused the BJP of failing to implement the proposal despite repeated demands. Chandigarh Congress President H.S. Lucky alleged that the party has consistently raised the issue of providing 20,000 litres of free water to residents during Municipal Corporation proceedings as well as on every public platform. However, he claimed that the BJP, driven by political arrogance, has failed to provide citizens with what he described as their rightful benefit. Lucky further stated that the proposal to provide 20,000 litres of free water per month had already been approved during a Municipal Corporation House meeting. Despite receiving approval, he said, the scheme has not yet been implemented, leaving city residents without the promised benefit. Demanding immediate action, the Chandigarh Congress urged the authorities to begin providing 20,000 litres of free water every month to every resident of the city. Lucky also alleged that the BJP has failed to address the city's key civic issues and has been unable to meet the basic needs of the people.
