Punjab Assembly Monsoon Session Begins; House Adjourned Till Noon After Tribute to Departed Souls
The Monsoon Session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday. Scheduled to continue until August 10, the session is the final Monsoon Session of the Bhagwant Mann government’s current term. The proceedings began with the House paying tribute to departed souls. During the session, members also paid homage to the students who lost their lives following the stress caused by the NEET examination paper leak. Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the Central Government needs to strengthen its system to prevent incidents of paper leaks, noting that young lives have been lost due to such occurrences. Following the obituary references and tributes, the proceedings of the House were adjourned until 12:00 noon. On the opening day of the session, the state government is also expected to introduce the Punjab Common Infrastructure (Regulation and Maintenance) Amendment Bill, 2026. However, Congress legislators have already adopted a confrontational stance ahead of the session, indicating the possibility of heated discussions in the House.
