Haryana BJP MLAs to Meet PM Modi in Delhi; Government Performance, SIR Likely to Be Discussed
: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, state BJP president Dr Archana Gupta and all 48 BJP MLAs from Haryana at his residence in New Delhi on Saturday.
The BJP has 48 legislators in the 90-member Haryana Assembly. The meeting is expected to focus on the state government's work, welfare initiatives and progress in fulfilling electoral promises. Discussions on the party organisation, coordination between the government and the organisation, and the prevailing political situation in Haryana are also likely.
According to reports, the meeting has been scheduled for the afternoon. Before proceeding to the Prime Minister's residence, the legislators are expected to gather with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Archana Gupta in Delhi. The Haryana delegation has already arrived in the national capital for the meeting.
SIR debate in focus
The meeting is taking place amid the ongoing political debate over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have raised objections to the exercise, while the Election Commission has been conducting SIR-related voter services and making electoral-roll information available through its voter portal.
No formal agenda for the meeting has been publicly announced. Reports, however, indicate that the Prime Minister is expected to seek feedback from legislators on the political situation in Haryana and the public response to government welfare programmes.
Organisational changes
The meeting also comes after recent changes in the BJP's Haryana organisation. Former Union Minister Smriti Irani has been appointed the party's Haryana in-charge, replacing Satish Poonia. BJP state president Archana Gupta is also expected to attend the meeting along with the party's central leadership representatives.
Archana Gupta had sought a meeting with the Prime Minister after taking charge as the state BJP president. The interaction was initially expected to take place in September but was subsequently rescheduled, with October 3 finalised for the meeting.
The discussion is expected to cover the functioning of the Haryana government, implementation of public welfare schemes, progress on promises made by the BJP, organisational matters and the current political situation in the state.
