Amritpal Singh Supporters Begin Massive March Towards Chandigarh, Traffic Advisory Issued

Supporters, leaders, and workers associated with the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organisation on Wednesday launched a large-scale peaceful march in Chandigarh, demanding the immediate release of the organisation’s chief, Bhai Amritpal Singh, as well as Bandi Singhs lodged in various prisons across the country. Thousands of protesters from Mullanpur Dakha and several other parts of Punjab gathered at Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali before beginning their march towards the official residence of the Punjab Chief Minister. Earlier, ‘Waris Punjab De’ leader Manpreet Singh Iyali had appealed to youth and the general public to extend full support to what he described as the legitimate demand for the release of Bhai Amritpal Singh and the Bandi Singhs. According to Iyali, nearly 500 vehicles from Dakha and nearby areas alone set out to participate in the peaceful demonstration. He urged participants to ensure that the protest remained completely peaceful and appealed to everyone to maintain law and order while avoiding any form of violence. In a post shared on his Facebook page, Iyali stated that raising one’s voice for legitimate rights and demands is the responsibility of every citizen, but it should always be done without resorting to violence. Chandigarh Traffic Police Issues Advisory In view of the protest march from Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali to the Punjab Chief Minister’s residence, Chandigarh Traffic Police issued a special traffic advisory for commuters and motorists. To maintain public order and ensure smooth traffic movement, special arrangements were put in place from 9:30 a.m. onwards along key routes connecting Chandigarh and Mohali, including areas around the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT-43) in Sector 43. According to the advisory, traffic from the UT-Mohali border (behind Burail Jail) to the Sector 50/51 roundabout, and further along Sarovar Path up to the Sector 44/45–50/51 intersection (Gaushala Chowk), including the Sector 44/45 traffic light point, will remain closed or diverted. Similarly, diversions and restrictions have been imposed on Vikas Marg from the Sector 43/44/51/52 junction (ISBT Chowk) to the Sector 44/45–50/51 intersection (Gaushala Chowk), as well as towards the Sector 45-46/49/50 junction. Traffic movement at the Sector 43/44 and Sector 45/46 light points has also been affected. To minimise congestion, buses heading to ISBT Sector 43 have been instructed to use alternate routes. Chandigarh Traffic Police has advised the public to avoid the affected roads, opt for alternate routes, and follow updates through its official social media handles on X, Facebook, and Instagram for the latest traffic information.
