Independent MP from Purnia, Bihar, Pappu Yadav, led a symbolic protest inside the Parliament complex on Friday over the alleged theft of donation money from the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Dressed in saffron-coloured attire and carrying a donation box, Yadav staged a dramatic demonstration to highlight the Opposition’s allegations regarding the matter. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also joined the protest. During the demonstration, the Opposition further intensified its demand for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The protest also raised the issue of police action against student protesters who had marched towards Parliament on July 20. Members of the INDIA bloc questioned Amit Shah’s absence from Parliament proceedings and reiterated their demand that he step down from his post. The MPs gathered outside the Makar Dwar of Parliament, raising slogans such as “Amit Shah इस्तीफा दो”, “Amit Shah सदन में आओ”, and “Chadhava Chor, Gaddi Chhod” as part of the protest. As part of the symbolic demonstration, donation boxes were placed near the steps of Makar Dwar, where Pappu Yadav sat during the protest. Several Opposition MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, dropped money into the boxes, while Pappu Yadav placed some currency into his own pockets to symbolically represent the Opposition’s allegations regarding the alleged theft of Ram Temple donations. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party MPs Awadhesh Prasad and Dharmendra Yadav, and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Mahua Maji also participated in the protest. They stood behind a banner that read, “Why is Amit Shah absent from the House?”
