Amritpal Singh Seeks Permission to Attend Parliament Budget Session, Hearing Today
The Punjab and Haryana High Court is set to hear a petition filed by Amritpal Singh, Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib, seeking parole to attend the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament. In his petition, Amritpal Singh has requested permission to remain present in the House throughout the session. The plea states that the Budget Session is being held in two phases. The first phase took place from January 28 to February 13, 2026, during which he was not granted permission to participate. The second phase, which is currently underway, is scheduled from March 9 to April 2, 2026. However, no decision has yet been communicated on his request, prompting him to seek judicial intervention. The petition further mentions that he had earlier applied for parole to attend the Winter Session of Parliament, but the hearing in that matter could not be concluded before the session ended. This time, he has urged the court to issue necessary directions to the government to facilitate his participation in the ongoing session. It is noteworthy that the hearing on Amritpal Singh’s separate petition challenging the provisions of the National Security Act (NSA) has already been concluded in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court has reserved its verdict in that matter. A decision on the issue may be delivered in a subsequent hearing.
