One Inmate Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Violent Clash at Patiala Central Jail

A violent clash between inmates at Patiala Central Jail in Punjab claimed the life of one prisoner, while another sustained serious injuries. According to available information, the two inmates who were attacked were brothers lodged in jail in connection with an NDPS case. The incident is suspected to have stemmed from an old rivalry. The victims have been identified as Ajay and Vijay. Reports indicate that the inmates who allegedly carried out the assault are from Amritsar. Ajay succumbed to his injuries in the attack, while Vijay suffered a fractured arm. Vijay has been admitted to a hospital for treatment, and Ajay's post-mortem examination is being conducted in Patiala today. Preliminary information suggests that Ajay and Vijay were involved in an altercation with a group of inmates from Amritsar before the attack. Police suspect that the incident may have been triggered by previous enmity between the two groups. Police officials said that on the day of the incident, a case had initially been registered against seven accused in connection with the clash. However, following Ajay's death, the offence of murder will now be added to the case. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
