Major Humanitarian Initiative: Free Meals for Patients and Families at Amritsar Hospital
In a significant humanitarian initiative, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has started a free langar service at Sri Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar for patients undergoing treatment and their attendants. The move extends the long-standing tradition of ‘Guru Ka Langar’ to healthcare institutions. The service was formally inaugurated by SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, who began the ceremony with prayers following the recitation of Mool Mantar and Gurmantra. Upon his arrival at the hospital, he was warmly received by Director-Principal Dr. Rajeev Devgan and Dr. Karamjeet Singh. Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Dhami said that the SGPC has consistently worked in line with the teachings of the Sikh Gurus, focusing on ‘seva’ (service) and ‘simran’ (spiritual remembrance) for the welfare of society. He stated that the langar service would provide much-needed support to patients and families, especially those coming from distant areas for medical treatment. He also expressed gratitude to the hospital administration for their cooperation in implementing the initiative. Several senior members of the SGPC, hospital staff, and other dignitaries were present during the event.
