Punjab Drug Smuggling: Heroin Consignments Recovered in Rajatal and Mahawa, Three Held

The Border Security Force (BSF) and Amritsar Rural Police have seized approximately 9.7 kg of heroin and more than 1 kg of ice drug, or crystal methamphetamine, in separate operations near the India-Pakistan border. The recoveries include suspected narcotics allegedly dropped by drones from Pakistan.

In one operation, personnel of the BSF’s 200 Battalion recovered 1.07 kg of suspected ice drug from the Saharan area on Thursday. The substance was packed and sealed with yellow tape before being handed over to Ramdas Police for registration of an FIR and further investigation.

In a separate case, Gharinda Police arrested three men on charges of trafficking ice drug. A police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Manjit Singh recovered 150 grams of the suspected narcotic from their possession.

The arrested men have been identified as Rajan, a resident of Kamal Avenue on Fatehgarh Churian Road; Kartik, who lives in Devi Nagar Colony in Nangli Batha; and Abhishek Kumar, a resident of Harnamdas Colony on Sultanwind Road in Amritsar.

A case has been registered against the three under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the drug and trace their backward and forward links.

Nearly 10 Kg Heroin Recovered in Two Operations

In two separate operations, alert BSF personnel recovered suspected heroin consignments from the Rajatal and Mahawa areas during patrolling.

The recovery from Rajatal weighed 4.990 kg, while another consignment weighing 4.825 kg was seized in Mahawa. The packets containing the suspected narcotics were subsequently handed over to the police.

Drug detection kits were used to examine the seized substances, confirming them to be high-grade heroin, according to the report.

Cases have been registered under Section 21(C) of the NDPS Act in connection with the heroin recoveries.

Investigation Underway

The seizures highlight continued attempts to smuggle narcotics across the international border. The BSF and police are investigating the cases to determine the origin of the consignments and identify possible links in the drug trafficking networks.
