Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra Recommended as Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has formally recommended the appointment of four senior High Court judges as Chief Justices of four prominent High Courts across the country. The recommendations cover the Bombay, Calcutta, Patna, and Punjab and Haryana High Courts. The Collegium held a meeting on August 6 to consider the appointments. Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, whose parent High Court is the Allahabad High Court, has been recommended for appointment as the permanent Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Appointment Process After Collegium Recommendation Following the Collegium’s formal recommendation, the proposals will proceed through the constitutional appointment process. The recommendations are sent to the Ministry of Law and Justice for administrative processing and approval. The proposals are then forwarded through the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for final executive approval. Once the approval is granted, the President of India formally appoints the Chief Justices of the respective High Courts by issuing an official notification under Article 217 of the Constitution. After the appointment process is completed, Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra is expected to take oath as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
