President Droupadi Murmu Launches Delhi Government’s Women-Centric Welfare Schemes

02 Mar, 2026 04:21 PM

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday inaugurated the ‘Pink National Common Mobility Card’ along with three other women-focused welfare schemes of the Delhi government, aimed at promoting women’s independence, safety, and access to public transport. Addressing the gathering during the ‘Empowered Women, Prosperous Delhi’ program at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, President Murmu highlighted that initiatives such as free bus travel and integrated transport access would empower women and enhance their mobility across the city. Under one of the schemes, families holding ration cards will be eligible to receive two free LPG cylinders annually during Holi and Diwali. The government has allocated ₹129 crore for this benefit, which will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). To streamline the issuance of the Pink Card, the Delhi government plans to establish approximately 50 centers across the city. The card will provide women and transgender individuals with free travel on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and seamless access to multiple public transport systems through a single smart card. The card issuance process will be coordinated through district and sub-divisional magistrates’ offices, as well as selected DTC locations. Each Pink Card will be linked to the beneficiary’s mobile number and Aadhaar to verify age, gender, and Delhi residency. The Pink Card will replace the existing paper-based Pink Ticket, offering touch-free travel, digital journey records, and enhanced transparency in fare accounting. The initiative is expected to make public transport more accessible, technology-driven, and safe while reducing daily commuting costs for women. As part of the program, three types of mobility cards will be issued: Pink for eligible women residents, Blue for general passengers, and Orange for monthly pass users. The first phase will see the launch of Pink and Blue cards, with Orange cards to follow in later stages. These initiatives mark a significant step toward making Delhi’s public transport system inclusive, secure, and convenient, particularly for women and transgender individuals, while also supporting their economic and social empowerment.
