Congress Seeks FIR Against CM Mann, Alleges False Forensic Report in Video Row
The Punjab Congress on Wednesday intensified its attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann over the controversial video issue, demanding his resignation while citing the directives of the Akal Takht. At a joint press conference led by Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the party’s senior leadership accused the Chief Minister of being responsible for the controversy and called for legal action against him. The Congress leaders urged authorities to register a case against the Chief Minister under the newly enacted anti-sacrilege law. They also demanded the dismissal of police officers who, according to the party, obtained a false forensic report in an attempt to contradict the Akal Takht's findings. Congress Questions Forensic Report Addressing the media, Raja Warring said that the truth had emerged following the registration of a case related to the forensic report prepared by a laboratory in Gurugram. He alleged that the Haryana Police had exposed the report prepared at the behest of senior Punjab Police officials by registering a criminal case in the matter. He further stated that the Chief Minister had been declared "Guru Dokhi" by the Akal Takht on June 15 and urged him to appear before the Akal Takht and seek forgiveness from the Sikh congregation. Demand for Action Against Police Officials Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also called for criminal cases to be registered not only against the Chief Minister but also against senior Punjab Police officers Swapan Sharma and Jashanpreet Singh. Randhawa further demanded an investigation into whether public funds were used to pay the Gurugram forensic laboratory for preparing the disputed report. Congress Targets AAP Leadership Former Punjab minister Pargat Singh alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were "two sides of the same coin." He claimed that AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was at the root of the ongoing controversies. Senior Congress leaders Vijay Inder Singla and Sukhpal Khaira also criticised the AAP government over the issue and questioned its handling of the matter. Channi Calls for Social and Political Boycott Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that the Punjab Congress had decided to socially and politically boycott Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in accordance with the directives of the Akal Takht regarding the controversial video case. He reiterated the demand for a police case against the Chief Minister and appealed to the public to boycott him until appropriate action is taken.
