Himachal: CM Sukhu inaugurates, lays foundation stones for Rs 100 crore development projects in Dehra Constituency

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated and laid foundation stones for six development projects worth Rs.100 crore in the Dehra Assembly constituency of Kangra district.

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for multiple key initiatives in Haripur Tehsil's Bankhandi, including a hospital administration and diagnostic block, centralized kitchen, and quarantine center at the Durgesh Aranya Wildlife Zoo, being developed at a cost of Rs.47.62 crore. He also laid the foundation for a lift drinking water scheme costing Rs.16.25 crore.

Among the infrastructure projects, CM Sukhu launched the upgradation of the Haripur–Sakri Gahra road (Rs.12.87 crore), construction of the Thathar Tripal–Mehwa Panchayat road (Rs.6.64 crore), and Guler to Nandpur Bariyal Ladret road (Rs.10.29 crore).

Additionally, he inaugurated a Rs.4.96 crore Community Health Centre in Dehra Tehsil.Highlighting the significance of the RS.619 crore Durgesh Aranya Wildlife Zoo project in Bankhandi, the Chief Minister said it is being developed to international standards.

In the first phase, Rs.150 crore is being spent to construct 43 enclosures. He noted that 90% of the boundary wall has been completed, and eight check dams are being built, with instructions issued to construct additional ones for rainwater harvesting.

The zoo will feature 78 animal species, including Asiatic lions, hog deer, monitor lizards, crocodiles, gharials, and a variety of bird species.

A wetland aviary will also be developed to house indigenous birds.CM Sukhu emphasized that the project will serve as a major tourist attraction, creating both employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth, thereby strengthening the local economy.

He added that the region’s unique natural beauty and eco-friendly infrastructure will help position Kangra district as the tourism capital of Himachal Pradesh.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the ongoing construction work at the site and issued directions to ensure timely completion and improvements wherever necessary.
