Punjab Police, with the assistance of central agencies, has secured the deportation of three wanted operatives of the Devinder Bambiha gang from Malaysia. The three were arrested by Punjab Police after arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and were subsequently brought to Punjab for further investigation, a senior police official said on Wednesday. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav identified the deported accused as Jaspreet Singh alias Jas Behbal, a resident of Faridkot, and Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh, both residents of Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. According to the DGP, all three are key operatives of the Malaysia-based Devinder Bambiha gang and are wanted in several cases involving murder, extortion, explosives and a planned hand-grenade attack in Ludhiana, with links to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Additional Director General of Police, Counter Intelligence, Amit Prasad, said the deportation and arrest of the three fugitives was the culmination of a continuous intelligence-based operation that remained underway for several months. During the operation, their movements and activities were closely monitored. He said coordinated efforts eventually led to the three being detained in Malaysia and subsequently deported to India. Inspector General of Police, OFTAC, Ashish Chaudhary, said accused Jaspreet Singh alias Jas Behbal had travelled to Malaysia in June 2019. There, he came into contact with a fugitive gangster, through whom he joined the Devinder Bambiha gang and gradually became an important member of the group. Police said Jaspreet has been formally arrested in connection with the 2025 murder case of former Panjab University Chandigarh leader Yadvinder Singh and the driver of Jeevanjot Singh Chahal alias Jugnu. The IGP further said that Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh were also key operatives of the Bambiha gang. They allegedly assigned their ground-level associates to carry out a hand-grenade attack in Ludhiana city in 2025. However, Ludhiana Commissionerate Police foiled the attack by arresting two of their associates. A P-86 Chinese hand grenade was also recovered from their possession on October 27, 2025. To expedite the process of bringing foreign-based gangsters back to India, Punjab Police has established the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTAC) under the leadership of IGP Ashish Chaudhary. The latest arrests are part of the state's efforts to track and bring back wanted criminals operating from abroad.
