Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions Escalate Following Deadly Air Attacks

At least 13 civilians, most of them children, were killed in airstrikes carried out by the Pakistani military in Afghanistan’s Kunar, Khost, and Paktika provinces, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed on Wednesday. Condemning the military action, Mujahid stated that the strikes took place on Tuesday night and targeted civilian homes. According to Taliban authorities, the victims included 11 children, one woman, and one elderly man. In addition, 14 other women and children were reported injured in the attacks. In a statement posted on social media platform X, Mujahid said that Pakistani forces had once again violated Afghanistan’s airspace and bombed civilian residential areas in the three provinces. He described the incident as a humanitarian crime and an act of aggression, strongly condemning the operation. The latest incident comes amid rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan over recent months. Repeated cross-border incidents and civilian casualties have increased concerns in the region. Both countries have accused each other of contributing to instability, while diplomatic efforts and local mediation initiatives aimed at reducing tensions have so far failed to produce significant results. According to the Taliban administration, a similar incident occurred last month in the Dangam district of Afghanistan’s Kunar province, where a Pakistani military attack reportedly killed three people and injured 14 others. The recent airstrikes are expected to further intensify tensions between the neighboring countries, as concerns continue to grow over the impact of ongoing hostilities on civilian populations.
