Former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Enters Entertainment Industry With New Production Company

12 Sep, 2026 02:08 PM

Former Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau is venturing into the entertainment industry by launching a new film production company named "Hope and Hard Work." The media venture was established in partnership with his longtime chief aide, Katie Telford, with the official announcement made during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). According to an official statement released by the company, the production house will focus on creating narrative-driven content and stories inspired by real-life events across various formats. Several projects are already underway, including adaptations of Perry Chafe's Newfoundland-set novel Closer by Sea and Uzma Jalaluddin’s mystery story Detective Aunty. Both Trudeau and Telford are set to serve as executive producers on these upcoming projects. Trudeau stepped back from active politics after announcing his resignation as Prime Minister in January 2025. Since then, he has engaged in global speaking circuits. During the World Economic Forum in Davos, he addressed the growing significance of "soft power," particularly through popular culture and media. This career pivot mirrors moves made by other high-profile political figures globally. Former U.S. President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama established their own production firm, Higher Ground Productions, in 2018. Similarly, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle founded their media company following their departure from official royal duties in the United Kingdom.
