PM Modi Urges Teachers to Monitor Students Beyond Academics

On the eve of Teacher’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with national award-winning teachers, emphasizing the crucial role educators play in shaping students’ lives beyond academics. He urged teachers to help students reduce screen time, raise awareness about drug abuse, and closely observe behavioral changes in their daily lives. Modi highlighted that in today’s society, where joint family systems are diminishing, teachers’ influence on children has become increasingly significant. He stressed that educators should not limit their focus to academic performance but also pay attention to students’ behavior, lifestyle, and overall well-being. Speaking about the growing challenge of drug abuse, the Prime Minister noted that in large cities and universities, it is often difficult to identify who may be affected, as the issue remains hidden. He called on teachers to take the lead in spreading awareness and to remain vigilant about subtle behavioral shifts among students. “Teachers must ensure that childhood is not lost,” Modi said, adding that preserving the innocence and creativity of children is one of the greatest contributions educators can make. He also encouraged society at large to inspire students toward constructive and creative pursuits.
