India Women’s Hockey Team Knocked Out of World Cup After Draw Against Australia

India’s women’s hockey team has been eliminated from the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup after playing out a draw against Australia in their final second-round match in Amstelveen, Netherlands. The result secured Australia’s place in the semi-finals on the basis of their superior goal tally. The match had become a direct contest for the final semi-final spot after the Netherlands defeated China 4-1, eliminating China from the tournament. India needed to win the match against Australia to progress to the semi-finals, while Australia only needed to avoid defeat because they already had a better goal difference. India survived an early scare during the match when an Australian player’s close-range shot struck Jyoti’s body before heading towards the goal. Following an appeal from India, the TV umpire ruled the incident as dangerous play and disallowed the goal.
