England Register Third Straight Super 8 Win, Defeat New Zealand in T20 World Cup

In the ninth Super 8 match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, England cricket team secured a four-wicket victory over the New Zealand cricket team, marking their third consecutive win in this stage of the tournament. The result has also kept Pakistan cricket team’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive. The match was played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first on Friday. The team made a strong start, scoring 54 runs without loss during the powerplay. However, they lost momentum in the middle overs, losing four wickets, followed by three more in the death overs. New Zealand posted a total of 159 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Glenn Phillips was the top scorer with 39 runs, while Tim Seifert contributed 35 runs. On the bowling side for England, Adil Rashid, Will Jacks, and Rehan Ahmed claimed two wickets each, while Liam Dawson took one wicket. In response, England successfully chased down the target in 19.3 overs, finishing at 160 for six. Will Jacks was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 32 runs off 18 balls. Rehan Ahmed also played a crucial role, remaining not out on 19 runs from just 7 deliveries, including two sixes. The duo shared an unbeaten 44-run partnership for the seventh wicket off just 16 balls, which proved to be the turning point of the match. Earlier, Sam Curran and Tom Banton added 42 runs for the fifth wicket in 35 balls, while Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell contributed 48 runs for the third wicket in another 35-ball partnership. England’s composed batting effort, supported by key partnerships at crucial moments, ensured a successful chase and strengthened their position in the Super 8 stage.
