The Customs Department has seized gold worth approximately ₹1 crore at Amritsar Airport in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Three passengers, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the case. According to officials, the three accused did not arrive on the same flight. Instead, they reached Amritsar on separate international flights. They are alleged to have concealed the gold in paste form and inside bracelets in an attempt to smuggle it into the country. Officials said that two of the passengers arrived from Sharjah on Flight No. 6E1428 and Flight No. IX-138, with the woman travelling on the latter flight. The third passenger arrived in Amritsar from Melbourne via Kuala Lumpur on Flight No. MH-118. A Customs official confirmed that the recovered gold has been seized. Cases have been registered against all three passengers under various provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. The department has also launched an investigation to determine whether the cases are linked to an international gold smuggling syndicate. Authorities are examining the broader network and the possible involvement of other individuals in the smuggling operation.
