Two Wanted by Punjab Police Arrested While Entering India from Nepal

A wanted member associated with a Punjab-based organisation and a US citizen were arrested while entering India from Nepal during a joint operation conducted along the Indo-Nepal international border. Three other individuals were also arrested for allegedly assisting them in their illegal entry into the country. Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishwajeet Srivastava said the operation was carried out by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Uttar Pradesh Police in the Rupaidiha police station area along the India-Nepal international border. The two arrested individuals have been identified as Vikramjit Singh, who is wanted in connection with a 2023 case registered at Ajnala Police Station in Punjab, and Manveer Singh Dhillon, a US citizen from Punjab's Moga district. According to the SP, Punjab Police had been searching for both individuals in connection with different cases. Citing preliminary questioning, Srivastava said Vikramjit Singh had been absconding for several days. He added that Dhillon is suspected to have entered India through Nepal without a visa in an attempt to evade law enforcement agencies. Police said the two were intercepted while crossing into Indian territory through the Rupaidiha border post from Nepal. During verification and questioning, their identities and their alleged links with the organisation came to light. Following the inquiry, police registered a case against both accused under the relevant legal provisions at Rupaidiha Police Station and formally arrested them. Srivastava further said that three Indian nationals from Rupaidiha town—Suresh Kumar Pathak, Dilip Upadhyay, and vehicle driver Rahul Kumar—were also arrested for allegedly attempting to facilitate the illegal entry of the two individuals into India. He added that officials from various security and intelligence agencies deployed at the border questioned all those arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.
