Bangladesh Highway Crash Leaves 15 Dead, Several Seriously Injured

At least 15 people were killed and 10 others injured after a truck loaded with iron rods overturned on a major highway in Bangladesh. The tragic accident occurred while people were travelling to their native villages to celebrate the 10-day Eid-ul-Adha holidays. According to police officials, the passengers travelling in the truck were heading towards northern districts of the country for Eid celebrations. Tangail Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar confirmed that the accident took place around 4:30 a.m. on Monday in the Saratail Dakshinpara area along the Dhaka-Tangail Highway. Local police said the truck was carrying iron rods along with several passengers. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing the truck to overturn on the highway. The incident created panic in the area, and emergency assistance was rushed to the spot. The injured were taken to a nearby health centre with the help of local residents. Authorities stated that several of the injured remain in critical condition and are receiving medical treatment. Reports indicate that Bangladesh began its 10-day Eid-ul-Adha holiday period on Monday, leading to heavy travel across the country. Buses, trains, and ferries have been overcrowded as thousands of people make their way home for the festival. Economically weaker sections of society often travel in trucks due to lower costs or the unavailability of tickets on regular transport services.
