Asian Games Tennis: Dakshineshwar Suresh, Sumit Nagal Enter Pre-Quarterfinals

Indian tennis players Dakshineshwar Suresh and Sumit Nagal made impressive starts in the men’s singles competition at the Asian Games, securing places in the pre-quarterfinals.
Dakshineshwar defeated Indonesia’s Gunawan Trismuwantara 7-5, 7-6 in the second round. The match lasted around one hour and 25 minutes, with the Indian player holding his nerve in a closely contested encounter.
Ranked 364th in the world, Dakshineshwar faced a strong challenge from his Indonesian opponent, who is ranked outside the top 2,000 globally. Dakshineshwar had received a first-round bye and therefore began his campaign directly in the second round.
Sumit Nagal, meanwhile, produced a commanding performance against South Korea’s Seongchan Hong. The Indian won the match 6-4, 6-0 to book his place in the next round.
Nagal’s match was affected by rain and stretched across two days, with the contest taking a total of three hours and four minutes.
With both Indian players progressing, Dakshineshwar and Nagal will now continue their campaigns in the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals at the Asian Games.
