The election for the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Block Samiti in Faridkot was postponed on Thursday after members of the Shiromani Akali Dal boycotted the proceedings. The absence of the party’s elected members resulted in a failure to meet the required quorum, forcing the administration to defer the election. According to officials, members from the Indian National Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and Bharatiya Janata Party were present at the office of the Block Development and Panchayat Office for the scheduled meeting. However, due to the boycott by Akali Dal members, the election process could not proceed. Following the postponement, Parambans Singh Romana, national vice-president of the Akali Dal, strongly criticised rival political parties. He alleged that a “secret agreement” had been reached between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party regarding the distribution of positions. Romana claimed that under this alleged arrangement, the Congress had agreed to allow the vice-chairman’s post to go to the AAP. He questioned how leaders who publicly oppose each other could collaborate behind the scenes to sideline the Akali Dal. The Akali Dal leader also objected to the presence of a local Member of the Legislative Assembly during the meeting, describing it as a violation of established rules. After the disruption, the administration rescheduled the Block Samiti meeting for Friday, when the election for the Chairman and Vice-Chairman is expected to be held again.
