Sydney Gurdwara Hosts Vibrant Punjabi Literary Darbar Celebrating Language and Heritage

A Punjabi literary and cultural gathering was organized at Glenwood Gurdwara Sahib in Sydney, bringing together writers, poets, and literature enthusiasts to celebrate Punjabi language, culture, and social awareness.

The event, held at Baba Buddha Ji Hall, attracted more than 50 literature lovers, while nearly three dozen writers and poets presented their literary works. The program was organized under the guidance of Director Makkhan Singh Hayar.

The event commenced with a Gurbani hymn performed by Bibi Parvinder Kaur. Proceedings were conducted under the stewardship of stage secretary Joginder Singh Sohi.

Several literary figures, including Harbans Singh Malwa, Sukhwinder Kaur Aahi, Lakhwinder Singh Raia, Kuldeep Singh Johal, Giani Santokh Singh, and others, shared their compositions with the audience. Their presentations focused on a wide range of themes, including the Punjabi mother tongue, cultural heritage, drug abuse, social evils, and human values.

The gathering also featured humorous poetry, folk songs, and religious compositions, which received an enthusiastic response from attendees and added variety to the program.

During the event, Dr. Avtar Singh Sangha shared information about renowned Australian literary figure Banjo Paterson, providing attendees with insights into Australian literary traditions.

Addressing the audience, Prof. Sukhwant Singh Gill reflected on the growth of the initiative. He noted that the literary forum began with only six writers and has gradually expanded into a much larger and widely supported platform.

The occasion also included a celebration of Dr. Sangha’s birthday, adding a festive element to the gathering.

The event concluded with participants expressing their commitment to meet again on the first Wednesday of the coming month, continuing their efforts to promote Punjabi literature, language, and cultural heritage within the community.
