ABVP Wins Three Key Posts in DUSU Elections 2026, Independent Candidate Takes Vice-President Position
New Delhi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured three of the four central positions in the 2026 Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, while Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen emerged victorious in the vice-president contest.
The results were announced after vote counting concluded at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in Delhi University's North Campus on Saturday. The election witnessed a keen contest between the ABVP and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), with Independent candidates also making a significant impact.
Yash Dabas Elected President
In the presidential race, Yash Dabas of ABVP won the top post with 24,576 votes, defeating NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena, who secured 22,523 votes.
The contest remained closely fought during several rounds of counting, but Dabas maintained his lead in the final stages to claim the presidency.
Deepanshu Shokeen Wins Vice-President Post
The vice-president election produced the biggest surprise of the polls, with Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen registering a decisive victory.
Shokeen secured 30,615 votes, finishing comfortably ahead of ABVP candidate Ishu Maurya, who received 16,910 votes. NSUI candidate Vir Chatrath polled 4,313 votes.
His victory made him the only non-ABVP candidate to win a central DUSU position this year.
ABVP Captures Secretary and Joint Secretary Posts
ABVP candidate Riya Chhawdi was elected secretary after securing 21,650 votes. She defeated NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary, who received 14,869 votes.
In the joint secretary contest, Lakshay Raj Singh of ABVP emerged victorious with 16,615 votes.
Independent candidate Vishesh Yadav finished a close second with 15,778 votes, while NSUI’s Gopal Choudhary secured 15,206 votes.
High Voter Participation
Polling for the DUSU elections was held on Friday across 52 centres and recorded a 40.46 percent voter turnout, the highest in the last three years. In comparison, voter turnout in the previous election stood at 39.5 percent.
A total of 20 candidates contested the four central posts of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary.
Security and Compliance Measures
Vote counting was conducted under heightened security arrangements, with police personnel deployed at the counting venue.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has prohibited victory processions following the declaration of the election results. The restriction applies to roads, university premises and student hostels. The court has also directed Delhi University and Delhi Police to ensure strict compliance with election-related norms.
With the results now declared, ABVP has strengthened its position in the students’ union by winning three of the four key offices, while Deepanshu Shokeen’s victory as an Independent candidate stands out as one of the most notable outcomes of the 2026 DUSU elections.
